Udderly Focused, explained
Caffeine + L-Theanine + Alpha-GPC
TL;DR
Caffeine blocks the 'sleepy' signal; L-theanine takes the jittery edge off; Alpha-GPC supplies choline for acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter of attention and learning. Together they're one of the well-researched combos for calm, alert focus.

How it works
- 1
Caffeine
Blocks adenosine receptors → less perceived fatigue, more alertness.
- 2
L-Theanine
Raises alpha-wave activity and GABA → relaxed, non-drowsy calm.
- 3
Alpha-GPC
Bioavailable choline → raw material for acetylcholine.
- 4
Synergy
Faster task-switching and fewer errors than caffeine alone in trials.
- 5
Locked in
Focus that lasts through a work block, without the energy-drink spiral.*
Why caffeine alone isn't enough
Caffeine works by blocking adenosine — a molecule that builds up while you're awake and makes you feel tired. Block it and you feel alert. The problem: at higher doses caffeine also cranks up stress hormones, which is where the jitters, anxiety and later crash come from.
Enter L-theanine
L-theanine is an amino acid found almost exclusively in tea leaves. It promotes alpha brain waves — the state associated with relaxed, wakeful attention — and appears to blunt caffeine's effect on blood pressure.
In multiple double-blind crossover trials, the caffeine + L-theanine combination improved accuracy on attention-switching tasks and reduced susceptibility to distraction compared with caffeine alone. Studies have used ratios from 1:1 to 1:2.5 caffeine to theanine; Udderly Focused runs 2:1 (200 mg caffeine, 100 mg theanine) — closer to strong coffee, so start with one scoop if you’re caffeine-sensitive.
Alpha-GPC: feeding acetylcholine
Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter most tied to attention, learning and muscle contraction. Alpha-GPC (L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine) is a highly bioavailable choline source that crosses the blood-brain barrier. It's used both as a cognitive supplement and by athletes for power output.

⏰ When to take it
- Morning or early afternoon, 20–30 minutes before deep work.
- Avoid within 8 hours of bedtime — caffeine's half-life is ~5 hours.
👍 Great for
- Deep work, studying, gaming
- Coffee drinkers who get jittery
- Pre-workout focus without a sugar load
⚠️ Cautions
- Contains 200 mg caffeine per 2-scoop serving — not for children, pregnant women or caffeine-sensitive people.
- Count all sources: keep total caffeine under ~400 mg/day.
- Talk to a doctor if you have heart conditions, anxiety disorders or take stimulant medication.
