Snooze Moo, Zen Heifer & Udder Calm, explained
Melatonin, L-theanine & the calm botanicals
TL;DR
Melatonin tells your body it's night; it shifts the timing of sleep more than it knocks you out, and low doses work as well as high ones. L-theanine and GABA support calm without sedation, and valerian, lavender, chamomile, lemon balm and passion flower are traditional relaxation botanicals with small but real human data.

How it works
- 1
Dusk
Darkness triggers your pineal gland to release melatonin.
- 2
Signal
Melatonin binds MT1/MT2 receptors and tells the body clock it's night.
- 3
Calm
L-theanine raises alpha brain waves; GABA and valerian act on the brain's main calming system.
- 4
Wind down
Lower arousal makes it easier to fall asleep — or stay composed by day.
- 5
Rest
Supports falling asleep tonight and steadier days tomorrow.*
Melatonin: a timing signal, not a sedative
Your body makes melatonin when it gets dark, and it acts like a clock signal. A meta-analysis of 19 trials found melatonin shortened the time to fall asleep and modestly increased total sleep, with the biggest benefits for jet lag and shifted schedules.
More is not better. Classic MIT research found doses as low as 0.3 mg restore normal night-time levels, while higher doses are more likely to leave you groggy. That's why Snooze Moo uses a gentle 1 mg, alongside valerian (50 mg), lavender, chamomile and hibiscus.
L-theanine & GABA: calm without drowsiness
L-theanine is an amino acid from green tea. In a 4-week randomized trial, 200 mg a day improved stress-related symptoms and sleep quality in healthy adults, and lab work shows it increases relaxed-but-alert alpha brain waves. Zen Heifer has 50 mg with 25 mg of GABA and vitamin B6, which your body uses to make its own GABA.
It's designed for daytime moments — the presentation, the flight, the busy afternoon — not for knocking you out.
The botanicals
Valerian root is the best-studied herbal sleep aid; a systematic review found it may improve sleep quality, though results vary between studies. Lavender, chamomile, lemon balm and passion flower have long traditional use for relaxation and smaller supporting trials.
Honest take: the botanical amounts in strips and gummies (10–50 mg) are well below the 300–600 mg used in most valerian trials. They round out the formulas; melatonin (Snooze Moo) and L-theanine (Zen Heifer) do the heavy lifting.
